1913 – 2013 WEA Sydney celebrates 100 years of lifelong learning

One hundred years ago, on 3 November 1913, the Workers’ Educational Association came into being in Sydney. It is still here, bringing a distinctive form of education to thousands of citizens of Sydney.

There were two major birthday events in early November as part of the public recognition of WEA Sydney’s contribution to the educational life of Sydney. A formal commemorative plaque was unveiled on Monday 4 November at WEA House by Mark Speakman MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Tertiary Education and Skills, who gave a most gracious speech, and on Friday 8 November, the Lord Mayor of Sydney held a civic reception for invited guests in WEA Sydney’s honour.
